Ocupational Therapy For Low Vision

 Occupational Therapy

Living with vision loss, or recovering after a stroke, can mean relearning how to do the things you used to do without thinking. You may have to compensate for memory issues, learn to overcome loss of independence due to vision loss, learn how to complete daily tasks in new ways, or make your home safer to avoid falls.

Our low vision occupational therapist, the only one in Nevada, can help you enjoy a safe, comfortable, independent life with vision loss, after a stroke, or with other medical conditions or diseases. Following a doctor’s prescription, our occupational therapist can help with:

  • Learn to overcome loss of vision with magnifying vision aids, featuring one on one instruction, on how to apply them to your life
  • Learning to use adaptive devices in daily activities
  • Tips for improving lighting, contrast, glare control, and ergonomics in your home
  • Using new grooming and dressing techniques
  • Ways to continue participating in leisure activities
  • Using memory books and other devices to aid memory
  • Identifying fall hazards in your home
  • Seating evaluation and wheelchair prescription
  • Diagnosing and treating vision problems
  • We run a full service Optometric and Low Vision Clinic, dedicated to diagnosing and treating eye disease as well as providing comprehensive low vision services to people with visual impairment. These services include refraction and evaluation of low vision devices to enable patients with sight loss to maximize their residual vision.
  • Our goal is to enable people who are visually impaired to function independently with the use of prismatic glasses, magnifiers, telescopes and electronic magnification aids.
  • Vision loss can begin subtly. You may not realize it’s happening. Early detection of eye disease is critical in the prevention of permanent sight loss. Our optometrists work with you to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle to help prevent vision loss.
  • In addition, we maintain strong relationships with some of the most prominent ophthalmologists in Las Vegas, serving all your eye health and vision care needs.
